PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S
Selective Message
by Jim Byrne
BRADENTON HERALD EDITOR:
In recent months you have given Barbara
Zdravecky, executive director of Planned
Parenthood of Southwest Florida, ample
space in which she explained the convoluted
logic which Planned Parenthood uses to
explain how it will help the relationships
between teen-agers and their parents by
assuring teens that their parents will never have
to know what they are up to. Just go see
Barbara and the gang for all the condoms,
pills, IUDs or other paraphernalia you need,
and you can do anything you want. If those
things should happen to fail, you can always
come back and we can kill the baby.
And if you don't tell Mom or Dad about it,
Barbara and the gang won't either. I'm sure
that's the type of relationship all of us are
trying to develop with our kids. And the best
part is that Planned Parenthood would like to
get involved in our children's schools as early
as possible so we can be assured of the
beautiful parent/child relationship described
above.
Looking at the comments of some of my own
kids over the past year or so, I was wondering
how Barbara would have had me handle them.
We attended the American Life League
Conference in Tampa last fall. On the way to
the room for children, we passed the
Operation Rescue booth which showed an
enlarged picture of a baby's head severed at
the jaw. My 10-year-old daughter asked what
it was, and I explained that that's what
happens to some babies who are aborted.
Now I imagine that Barbara would have had
me tell her that it was a horrible thing for those
people from Operation Rescue to show that
picture. My daughter was appalled, of course,
and you know what she asked me? ``How
could anyone do that to a baby?''
She knew that without the abortion there
would have been no picture. Pretty good for
10, wouldn't you say, Barbara? Hey, maybe
they could show an abortion on The Learning
Channel. You know, that show that shows
operations. I'm sure all of America would like
to watch the abortionist take inventory -- two
arms, two legs, torso, head -- to make sure he
got the entire ``blob of cells,'' as some of the
pro-death people call it. Of course in a 1963
brochure Planned Parenthood itself stated,
``An abortion kills the life of the baby after it
has begun.''
Recently, our 10-year-old who just turned 11,
got a tape which was pretty sexually explicit
for her birthday. She gave it to me and said
that she doesn't think that it's the kind of stuff
she should be listening to. Can you imagine
that? She doesn't think of sex as a form of
recreation. She really listens to us when we tell
her that sex was made by God for marriage.
Did you know, Barb, that since Margaret
Sanger started the American Birth Control
League in 1921 and began her campaign to
promote ``free sex'' that the divorce rate has
skyrocketed? I guess she just wanted to make
sure that all those teens you are so concerned
about would come from broken homes.
In her writings, Margaret Sanger also
promoted racism (``We do not want word to
go out that we want to exterminate the Negro
population, and the minister is the man who
can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to
any of their more rebellious members.''),
infanticide (``The most merciful thing that the
large family does to one of its infant members
is to kill it.'') and eugenics (``Birth control must
lead ultimately to a cleaner race.'') We fought
a war against a madman, Adolf Hitler, who
espoused the same ideas. It is no surprise,
then, that Planned Parenthood is anti-God and
anti-religion.
Planned Parenthood claims to be pro-choice,
yet when the group ``Feminists for Life''
wanted to put information about alternatives to
abortion in college clinics, the internal
newsletter of PP called it a grave threat to
choice. I don't get it. Since when is knowing
your choices a threat to choice? It seems that
the only choices which Planned Parenthood
promotes are the ones that bring money into
their coffers. So much for free choice. All of
the choices at Planned Parenthood come with
a physical, emotional, moral as well as
monetary price tag. That is a price nobody
should have to pay.
