It's INDEPENDENCE Day
NOT The 4th of July
If I hear "4th of July" one more time I'm going to scream !!!!
C'mon people. Everyone has a 4th of July.
But we, Inhabitants of the United States of America, celebrate the birth of
our nation on that day.
We no longer have a 4th of July. We should proudly proclaim the day between
the 3rd and the 5th as:
INDEPENDENCE DAY.
That precious document, The Declaration of Independence, was signed by 56
courageous men who gave their blood, sweat and tears to secure our freedom.
They did this despite the fact that they knew they would be considered
traitors by the British Government that they sought freedom from. And they
paid dearly for it. Some were captured and tortured to death by the
British. Some lost their homes as they were ransacked and burned. Many lost
family members and ultimately their very lives.
And for what? Take a look at what we've allowed our nation to become. What
was once evil, is now good and what was once good, is now castigated and
ridiculed. How far have we come from the foundation laid by the men who
"pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor"?
Just look at the current inhabitants of our White House. We allowed them
residence of that famed address not once, but TWICE. Even after it was
determined that the head of that household was a law breaker, liar,
fornicator and predator, we elected him again. How pathetic we are that we
could sell our Patriotism for a few pieces of silver ("but the economy's
good"). Pathetic indeed.
I just thank God that those courageous men are not around to see what we've
done to the nation they died for.
And year after year, via television, print, radio, advertising, and the
banners over the very picnics we attend, we further relegate our brave
founders to the trash heap of forgetfulness, as we continually minimize the
importance of the birth of our nation as merely "the 4th of July".
I believe the time has come for us to start a revolution of our own. EVERY
time we are greeted with "have a happy 4th of July", we should always reply
"and you have a happy celebration of our Independence Day".
We, as grateful citizens of these United States should forever, from this
day forward, honor our founders for their bravery, by acknowledging the day
between the 3rd and the 5th of July as INDEPENDENCE DAY !!!!
